The Unique 2015 “Will Run for Beer” Race Series Is Underway, but You Can Still Get In and Earn Your Jacket!
What a series, and what a concept! It’s an exciting way to start your racing in 2015. Run only FIVE of the eight races and earn a cool Will Run for Beer custom wind jacket. Yes, this series in southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts has created quite a buzz and has a strong following. Enjoyable races, a point system, bragging rights, Smuttynose craft beers, and that jacket--how can you go wrong?

With eight races in different locations around the region, this unique series is a gem, and is in its eighth year. Each individual race is a terrific event on its own. Put them all together and set up a scoring system and you have added fun spread over nearly six months. It’s the same great lineup as last year. The more races you run the more points you get, but you only need five races to qualify for the jacket. They can be made up entirely of 5K races if you like, or you can add a 10K and two possible half marathons if you prefer.
You will see flawless organization by LOCO Sports, bringing together top notch races with beer themes from January to June. That’s right, it all begins January 1st with two great party races as options to celebrate the new year: 1st Run in Lowell and the Hangover Classic in Salisbury, Massachusetts.
We advise registering NOW for the series; it is only $10.00. The deadline is midnight on Tuesday, February 10. Of course, you must also register individually for each race, with care to use the exact same name for proper tracking of your points. The Smuttynose “Will Run for Beer” 5K finale will conclude in late June, running at the state-of-the-art brewery in rural Hampton, New Hampshire.

Will Run for Beer Series
The now famous "Will Run for Beer" race series has been set up in conjunction with LOCO Sports. It includes a possible eight events January 1 to June 21, 2015; and the big reward is the custom "Will Run for Beer" jacket. Runners need only five races to qualify for the jacket, and it is possible to do all 5K’s.
There are 12 possible races from which you can choose eight available events. For the more adventurous there are longer options, including the 10K at the 1st Run or Hangover Classic, the Half Marathon at Half at the Hamptons; and the Great Bay Half Marathon (a 5K is also included for that one) on April 12, Newmarket, NH.
Other races include the Smuttynose Palooza 5K on March 7 in Salisbury, MA; the April Fools Four Miler, March 28, also Salisbury; Stonyfield Earth Day 5K in Londonderry, NH May 16; and the Margarita's 5K in Exeter, NH on May 31. The Series closes with the Smuttynose Will Run for Beer 5K at the Smuttynose Brewery in Hampton, New Hampshire on June 21 (date tentative) where the Series Jackets will be awarded. There is a point system for overall winners and leaders with cash awards going to the top three women and men overall. They also track age group points so after each event you can see where you stack up with others in your division within the series.
And then there are “Race Points”. Runners need only five of the eight to qualify for the jacket.

The 1st Run, January 1, Lowell, MA: they offer a 5K and 10K and terrific amenities, including personalized bibs, personal e-mail results, digital clocks each mile, gun and net time, knit hats and gloves, heat sheets, music, beer, snacks and a flat and fast loop course. 1st Run Lowell 5K and 10K
The Hangover Classic, January 1, Salisbury, MA: flat courses along the beach—either 5K or 10K. There is a big party following at the Carousel Lounge and an optional ocean plunge for the adventurous. Hangover Classic 5K and 10K
Half at the Hamptons, February 22, 2015, Hampton Beach, NH: This popular and unique half marathon offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and a taste of the historic charm of Hampton Beach. Spring marathon training run, or seaside winter adventure, this run along the serene shore in late February is ideal with a super post race party and taps flowing. The post race party is in the ballroom of the historic and elegant Ashworth-by-the-Sea hotel. Half at the Hamptons.
Smuttynose Palooza 5K, March 7, 2015, Salisbury Beach, MA: This is a flat and fast 5K with beach and ocean views in the resort area of Salisbury. Race headquarters is the Blue Ocean Pavilion, where the post race party will be, highlighted by Smuttynose craft beers and some great snacks. April Fools Four Miler, March 28, Salisbury, MA: Hey, April Fools—the race is in March. This one is the work of the indefatigable Winner’s Circle Running Club, held in another part of Salisbury and hosted by the Winner’s Circle Sports Bar! It is very flat, fast, fun, and has been around a while; they know what they are doing, it’s the 34th Annual. And they know how to party. It’s the only Four Miler in the series. No fooling! Great Bay Half Marathon and Beyond the Rainbow 5K, April 12, 2015, Newmarket, NH: You have the option of the half marathon or the 5K. They start together before branching off around two miles. This is a lovely, scenic, challenging 13.1 loop with a fantastic finish on a closed off Main Street with crowds cheering. The half marathon explores rural roads, conservation area, farms and forests with great views of the famed estuary. The 5K tours the unique and historic town of Newmarket—the party and beer following is a great reward for Great Bay:
Stonyfield Earth Day 5K, May 16, Londonderry, NH: A flat course to and from the Stonyfield Yogurt Works in conjunction with a terrific Earth Day Fair. There are many nutrition vendors and health and environmental organizations with samples and offerings. And of course a beer garden. Stonyfield Earth Day 5K
Margarita’s 5K, May 31, 2015, Exeter, NH: This 5K runs in quaint, wonderful, Exeter, which is quintessential New England —so much history—and now so much fun. Mexican food will go great with the beer and vice versa once you complete the 5K loop. This is a fun event hosted by the famous restaurant and organized once again by LOCO Sports. Smuttynose “Will Run for Beer” 5K, June 21, 2015 (date probable), Hampton, NH: the name says it all—this is the finale, and what a wonderful place to have it, the Smuttynose Brewery—they know beer; they do beer. It is a rural loop in Hampton and starts and finishes at the new brew house. The post race party is worthy of the name and the location, and you don’t want to miss getting that jacket! Keep your training schedule on track, or satisfy that resolution and get it going. Enjoy the camaraderie of the series participants, and enjoy the terrific post race parties. The series is unique and each event has a unique setting.
This is for anyone; all are welcome. Do all eight and garner as many points as possible. It is competition in a really fun atmosphere. It’s the envy of runners in other regions, and New Englanders have it right in their back yard. Great venues, awards, and super post race parties with taps flowing. You can’t beat it!
