The Ninth Annual Bill’s Pizzeria 5K in Newton Centre with Kids' Spooky Sprint--Fun for a Cause
This is a wonderful 5K. The Kids' 1/4-mile Spooky Sprint, with hundreds in costume, sets the stage, and then the competitive 5K takes off on a lovely clockwise tour in Newton Centre, Massachusetts. It provides an amazingly enjoyable atmosphere, including their terrific post race pizza party with music. Costumes are welcome for the 5K run too. The October 26, 2014 event benefits the Travis Roy Foundation.

Bill’s Pizzeria 5K will be running in lovely Newton Centre on Sunday, October 26, 2014 with a clockwise loop right through the heart of the village. Race headquarters, and start and finish, will be at the Mason Rice Elementary School, 149 Pleasant Street, Newton Centre. This is just a few blocks off Beacon Street and near Bill’s Pizzeria, the title sponsor for nine years running. You get lots of perks with this one, including a really nice course that skirts the edge of Crystal Lake and crosses Beacon Street twice on a sweet loop that accommodates any pace from elite racers to beginners.
The first 500 to register will receive long sleeve tech T-shirts and all participants will enjoy the famous post race Crazy Pizza Party at Bill’s—terrific post race food and refreshments with live music.
The 5K is at a convenient 9:00 a.m., but before the big one blasts off there will be a quarter mile Spooky Sprint Fun Run zipping off at 8:30 a.m., which is the epitome of healthy Halloween fun for kids—many of whom will be in costume—and you talk about a cute, fun atmosphere! And watch for the smiles on those faces when each receives her or his gift—priceless. Bill's Pizzeria 5K Race Website
Fattman Productions of Newton will manage this one as they have for nine years. They are providing another race in Newton that benefits the community in so many ways; this time with help from sponsoring Bill’s Pizzeria: Bill’s original location (and the scene of the terrific post race party) is at 753 Beacon Street, Newton Centre, Massachusetts 02459. They have another location in Natick, Massachusetts, at 58 East Central Street. Check them out: Bill's Pizzeria Website
And thanks to Bill’s and the many other fine sponsors (see the website), Fattman Productions can offer both the FREE Spooky Sprint as well as a most reasonable registration fee for the 5K. This is a wonderfully scenic, pleasant, and wonderfully supported 5K loop. The event has an amazing atmosphere before, during, and after the race. During the post race party they will have the enjoyable awards ceremony—using the famous pizza paddle—recognizing the top three overall and top three in each division: 15-and-under, 16-19, and 10-year age groups through 70 plus.
Keep in mind that this is a fundraiser for the Travis Roy Foundation and donations and pledges are most welcome. You can check out the details on this and all other necessary info, such as directions, parking, course map, beneficiary, sponsors, results, and more at the race website: Bill's Pizzeria 5K Race Website. This event is about fundraising and FUNraising.
The Mason Rice Elementary School is located at 149 Pleasant Street, Newton Center 02459, and race headquarters will be located there with late packet pickup and late registration available in the gym from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 on race morning.
But don’t wait. Save both money and hassle and do it early on line or download the registration form on the website. Advance packet pickup will be conveniently available on Thursday, October 23 at Bill’s Pizzeria in Newton Centre from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; or you can pickup race packet on Friday the 24th at First Commons Bank, 718 Beacon Street, Newton Centre. Please see the race website for details on where and when to pickup your bib number and shirt.
The course is awesome, looping through Newton neighborhoods. This is an especially enjoyable race to run in Newton Center with a lot of costumed participants and traffic control—doesn’t happen often. The start will be on Tyler Terrace, just a short distance from Mason Rice Elementary and adjacent to the Newton Center Playground.
After the horn the field will head west on Tyler Terrace to begin the clockwise loop with a left on Pleasant Street, then crossing Beacon Street to Lake Avenue. More than a third of the course is on Lake Avenue, a pretty tour that includes the north edge of Chrystal Lake and a nice flat run, passing one mile just a short distance past the lake. At 1.2 the course turns right or north on Walnut Street for a one-mile sprint. It crosses Beacon Street again at Four Corners and continues north to the two-mile mark on Walnut just before the right turn on Homer Street as runners home in on the last portion.
Homer Street carries the field to Center Street and a right turn, followed shortly thereafter with another right along the playground back to Tyler Terrace, and a triumphant and enjoyable finish just beyond the original start.
And then…the Crazy Pizza Party and more!
