Newburyport is a gorgeous seaside quintessential New England town known for rich history. Newburyport was settled in 1635 as a part of Newberry Plantation. In 1764, it became the town of Newburyport and in 1851 thrived well enough to be named a city. It is the birthplace of the United States Coast Guard and contains many historic buildings and is home to many historic events. Visitors might be interested in the Cushing Museum and Gardens and the Newburyport Custom House Museum or Plum Island for example. Newburyport was once an important seaport and ship-building center. Make it a destination, a fun road trip with friends and/or family; a great weekend racing getaway for everyone!

Be a part of history—and a unique racing adventure--when you run in the All Women & One Lucky Guy Half Marathon field. This USATF-certified course is mostly flat, fast and has only modest hills. If you are that one guy, lucky and able, you'll run with a lot of women and be a celebrity for the day. What could be better? You automatically win your division! Race headquarters and the start and finish are located at Newburyport High School at 241 High Street, Newburyport, MA 01950, and the first 2.5 miles will be mostly along Hale Road departing Newburyport. Hale becomes Middle Street entering West Newbury, and you will turn left along Upper Artichoke Reservoir, keeping the water on your right. At this point, you are nearing the 3-mile marker and on your way toward clockwise loop that makes up the majority of the course. Forested roads alternate with fields and pastures as you explore this region. It will be difficult to believe that you are so close to a major metro area, as it seems so bucolic and remote.

At about 5.3-miles you will see Little Crane Pond on your left and will run along it for about half a mile. There is an uphill section, nothing major, at about seven miles, and this half way point also includes a little over a quarter mile of hard-packed dirt road. The section from seven to 10 is really beautiful, and at about 10.4 you will pass between two reservoirs on Middle Road—Lower Artichoke on your left and Upper Artichoke on the right. After passing this point you will reenter Newburyport and finish the last two miles heading back to the school. You will be impressed with this course, and there will be plenty of aid and porto-potties along the way. LOCO knows what you want and need.

This course is USATF-certified. The race is professionally timed using the ChronoTrack B-Tag timing chip, which is built into the race bib number. There will be a start mat this year, so the times will be net from start to finish, in addition to standard or gun time. Water, Gatorade and energy gel stations will be available throughout the race at convenient locations. For a more detailed course map, visit:

Packet pickup will be located at Newburyport High school from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 3rd, 2013. The start time for runners and walkers is 11:00 a.m. sharp!
