If you have never been to the Paddy’s Road Race in West Newton then it is time you enjoy this three-mile pub race. If you are familiar with the area, all the more reason to enjoy this clockwise certified loop through town for a wonderful cause, the Newton Special Athletes. As always, this community event will be a treat for runners and walkers of all abilities, and the organization is top notch. This year it is once again the final event in the New England Runner Pub Series. It is also becoming famous for its post race celebration and excellent food.

This event is very well organized, and after 11 years they really have it down—smooth registration and number pick-up process, good course monitoring, and of course the post race fun. It is chip timed and they offer 10-year age group awards three deep through 70+. Shillelagh’s go to the winners, and one of the great things about this Irish Pub is that it truly reflects its Irish heritage—this is not just a few decorations, this one is genuinely Irish. Paddy’s sits at 95 Elm Street, West Newton, MA 02465.

And the race is genuinely a terrific Eastern Massachusetts Road Race with all the amenities. And it is truly a community happening, with an excellent array of sponsorship. Check the fine race Website at for race details, course map and description, directions, volunteer needs, contacts, charities, past results, photos, and much more. We hope you can join us this Sunday October 14th for the 11th Annual Paddy’s Road Race – the Shillelagh Shuffle.

Registration is available on Saturday at Paddy's or on race morning--please see below for times, etc. If you have further questions or you don’t find the needed information below please email Mark Kelly at for more information or call (617) 796-1527 with any questions.

The three-mile course is a very flat, very fast, USATF certified (MA07030JK) and chip-timed race with a clockwise loop starting and finishing adjacent to the pub on Border Street (near the Elm Street intersection just off Washington Street).

Late Registration and Early Packet Pick-up:
If you live in the area, you are encouraged to pick-up your bib number at Paddy's on Saturday October 13th between 10:00am - 2:00pm (41% of pre registered in 2011 picked up on Saturday, which helped make race morning run very smooth). The bib is your timing device, so make sure to remember to bring it with you to the race! Your bib # is posted on the race website. Late registration will also be available at this time so you don’t have to deal with it on Sunday morning.

Race Day Pick-Up and Late Registration
Race Day Number Pick-Up is from 9:30 am - 11:10 am (Come early!!). You can also register at this time, although we suggest that you register at the Paddy's Pub tomorrow-Saturday if possible. When you get to the race, head to the large white tent and get into the line that corresponds to your race number (lines 1-199, 200-399, 400-599, etc.) to get your bib and pins. If you forget your bib number, just go to the participant list near the pub and find your name (in alphabetical order) and bib #.

Runners with numbers 1-700 will receive a race shirt. If you are not within the first 700 runners (over 1,400 pre-registered so far), no need to worry. We have additional shirts in multiple logos/colors to sell on Saturday and race day. T-shirt options, women’s and men’s, are on the race website at Make checks payable to Newton Special Athletes.

Race Morning – the Three-Mile
Three Mile race participants will begin to head down to the start line at 11:00 a.m. We will send the walkers down first followed by runners according to their projected pace (12 minutes per mile, 10 minutes per mile, etc.) in decreasing order. Please stand behind the sign that best represents your mile pace. Your (net) time doesn't start until you cross the starting mat, so no need to rush to the front.
