If you have never run the Paddy’s Road Race in West Newton then it is time you enjoy this three-mile pub race. If you are familiar with the area, all the more reason to enjoy this clockwise certified loop through town for a wonderful cause, the Athletes Unlimited program for children an adults with disabilities. As always, this community event will be a treat for runners and walkers of all abilities, and the organization is top notch. This year it is once again the final event in the New England Runner Pub Series. It is also becoming famous for its post race celebration with Irish-themed music and excellent food. http://www.paddysroadrace.com/

This event is very well organized, and after 12 years they really have it down—smooth registration and number pick-up process, good course monitoring, and of course the fabulous post race fun with awards, raffles and a silent auction. It is chip timed and they offer 10-year age group awards three deep through 70+. Shillelagh’s go to the winners, and one of the great things about this Irish Pub is that it truly reflects its Irish heritage—this is not just a few decorations, this one is genuinely Irish. Paddy’s sits at 95 Elm Street, West Newton, MA 02465. http://www.paddys.us/

In the early years it was known as the Troubadour Trot, and the race is genuinely a terrific Eastern Massachusetts Road Race with all the amenities. It is truly a community happening, with an excellent array of sponsorship. Check the fine race Website at http://www.paddysroadrace.com/ for race details, course map and description, directions, volunteer needs, contacts, charities, past results, photos, and much more. We hope you can join us on Sunday, October 20th for the 12th Annual Paddy’s Road Race – the Shillelagh Shuffle. Start time for the 3-miler is 11:30.

Registration and packet pick-up are available on Saturday, October 19th at Paddy's or on race morning--please see below for times, etc. If you have further questions or you don’t find the needed information below please email runtheshuffle@gmail.com for more information or call (617) 796-1527 with any questions.

The three-mile course is a very flat, very fast, USATF certified (MA07030JK) and chip-timed race with a clockwise loop starting and finishing adjacent to the pub on Border Street (near the Elm Street intersection just off Washington Street).

There are Youth Field Races (free) beginning at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at nearby West Newton Common. See below for a list of fun kids’ activities. And the 1K Youth and All Abilities race will get underway at 10:30 on Border Street just down from Paddy’s Pub (check in on the Common—see below).

New England Runner Pub Series Finale
This will be the Grand Finale of the eminent New England Runner Pub Series, a six-race series of excellent events which attracts a very loyal following. This is the 16th year for this series, which includes events designed to celebrate road racing and to celebrate the joy that friendly competition and running camaraderie can bring. The music, food and beverages at Paddy’s typify the Pub Series; go to www.nerunner.com . It began April 7 at the 17th Doyle’s Emerald Necklace 5-Miler, Jamaica Plain, MA; followed by the 30th James Joyce Ramble 10K on April 28, Dedham, MA; Evan's Run 5K in Norwell, MA on May 19; the 10th Common Fence Point 5 Miler, Portsmouth, RI on August 18; and the 3rd Annual Tavern to Tavern 5K in Cambridge, MA on September 22.

Late Registration and Early Packet Pick-up:
If you live in the area, you are encouraged to pick-up your bib number at Paddy's on Saturday October 19th between 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (which helps make race morning run very smooth). The bib is your timing device, so make sure to remember to bring it with you to the race! Your bib # is posted on the race website. Late registration will also be available at this time so you don’t have to deal with it on Sunday morning.

Race Day Pick-Up and Late Registration
Race Day Number Pick-Up is from 9:30 am - 11:10 am (Come early!!). You can also register at this time, although we suggest that you register at the Paddy's Pub on Saturday if possible. When you get to the race, head to the large white tent and get into the line that corresponds to your race number (lines 1-199, 200-399, 400-599, etc.) to get your bib and pins. If you forget your bib number, just go to the participant list near the pub and find your name (in alphabetical order) and bib #.

T-Shirts:
Runners with numbers 1-700 will receive a race shirt. If you are not within the first 700 runners (there were nearly 2,100 last year), no need to worry. They have additional shirts in multiple logos/colors to sell on Saturday and race day. T-shirt options, women’s and men’s, are on the race website at www.paddysroadrace.com. Make checks payable to Athletes Unlimited.

Race Morning – the Three-Mile
Three Mile race participants will begin to head down to the start line at 11:00 a.m. Walkers should head down first followed by runners according to their projected pace (12 minutes per mile, 10 minutes per mile, etc.) in decreasing order. Please stand behind the sign that best represents your mile pace. Your (net) time doesn't start until you cross the starting mat, so no need to rush to the front. Important safety note on Strollers: All participants pushing a stroller should line up in the back with the walkers.

The 1K Event Starts at 10:30
Participants in the 1K Youth and All Abilities race can pick up their bib and t-shirt on Saturday October 19th, also between 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the pub or on race morning at West Newton Common. All 1K participants are asked to check in on race morning at the 1K tent in West Newton Common between 10:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Participants will be doing group stretches and then walking over to the start line on Border Street as a group.
