Everyone can be a Superhero! Register now for this special 5K race through scenic Cambridge, Massachusetts, and enjoy a 5K like no other. Running from Central Square toward Harvard Square and back, this event produces a memorable tour through Cambridge.

The Superhero 5K continues to support On the Rise by donating a portion of the proceeds. On the Rise is a day program for homeless women, On The Rise seeks out and welcomes those who have the fewest alternatives. Learn more by visiting their webpage at www.ontherise.org.

This 5K is the perfect race for runners of all abilities, and also for walkers: seasoned runners can PR on this terrifically flat course; mid-level runners can practice their stride and pacing; novice runners can try their first officially timed race; and walkers are encouraged to participate and maybe get a first taste of road racing! The first 750 registrants will receive a beautifully designed tech race T-shirt. New in 2012, women can select a women’s cut shirt. However, the best part of this race is being a part of such a wonderful cause, and being able to participate in such a fun event in such a joyful atmosphere.

This is a great opportunity to run in Cambridge Center on streets that are normally not available for runners and walkers. It begins and ends at 82 Pacific Street, Cambridge, MA 02139 and is easily accessible on the MBTA Red Line near the Central Square station. Check all information on directions and details on the race and organization Website www.have2run.com .

The race is held in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the start line is actually very near Cambridge Center! This makes for an easy commute to the start via the MBTA (the “T”) – just get off at the Central Square stop (closest), or you can also get off at the Kendall/MIT stop and head west for a few blocks. Pacific Street is adjacent to University Park at MIT. The race starts promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, and will occur rain or shine! Packet pickup and late registration will take place from 8:00 to 9:45 a.m. at 82 Pacific. But don’t wait to register—you want that custom technical T-shirt, plus the registration fee goes up from $30 to $35 on race day.

Runners and walkers will start together at 10:00 a.m. The course runs through the flat, beautiful streets of Cambridge and features excellent police traffic control with mile markers and one convenient water stop. For additional detailed information contact the race director at info@have2run.com .

Runners and walkers will make a loop for a few blocks and then head out onto Massachusetts Avenue heading northwest where there is array of locally owned shops, restaurants and pleasant city parks. Runners will head northwest toward Harvard Square and make another loop at halfway, just before entering the busy Harvard University area and Harvard Square. After the halfway loop, the field heads back along Massachusetts, moving southeast through quaint parts of Cambridge, passing eclectic shops and Victorian homes and historic buildings. Your triumphant finish is near the start so there is no need to transport gear point-to-point. www.have2run.com

This is a traffic-controlled route with one water stop and mile markers along the way. To celebrate your victory, the post-race party and festivities will include a raffle and the awards for best costumes, starting almost immediately after the finish. Food, beverages, and music will be provided for race participants and spectators, with an awards ceremony for the race placements. Special medals will be awarded to the top three overall female and male finishers, as well as the top two in each age division—10-year age groups starting with 15-and under, 16-19, then 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.

Race Day
Race packets can be picked up at the start beginning at 8:00 a.m. and are available until 9:45; and day-of registration will be open until then. Walkers are encouraged to participate, however walkers and slower runners should finish within one hour in order to be timed. This is a fun-packed event for all ages and abilities; don’t miss out! Send your registration in now.

Kids’ Sprint, Free
Just before the main event there will be a 50-yard Kids’ Fun Run. It begins at 9:45 and is free to all. This is an adorable part of the fun and will get all runners and walkers into a happy Superhero mind set just before their race begins.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Superhero race, please check the website, as road races need volunteers and it is a great opportunity to participate while friends and loved ones travel the course.

Costumes Can Bring Prizes
There will be cash awards for best costumes totaling $1,500. The cash prizes for Best Costumes will be decided by a panel of judges from Boston Comic Con. They will set up a best costume tent where contestants will check in and be photographed before the race. Judges will make their decisions during the race so the prize announcements will be made immediately after the race.

Anyone can compete individually for costume prizes. The top individual costumes for women and for men, as with group costumes, will be judged on originality, creativity, and execution. There will also be prizes for the best hero/villain combination, so grab a friend and get your ideas going for this pairing—and enjoy the race together. Who will vanquish the other?

Likewise there will be two group/team costume prizes—the Fantastic Four and the Magnificent Seven. They will have four and seven team members respectively with coordinated costumes. Get your team together and have fun like no team race before. (Registration fees for teams as above are slightly less than individuals.)
