A New Race Management Company Presenting an Exciting Half Marathon in Newburyport, Massachusetts—Sweet
Sub 5 Racing is a new company, but they bring years of experience to race management and specifically to the Green Stride Newburyport Half Marathon set for October 23. And they have much more planned from 5K’s and trails to half marathons and beyond.

The inaugural Newburyport Green Stride Half Marathon is one of those “must do” fall races in New England. The timing is right, the organization and amenities top notch, the course is outstanding, and there is something for everyone in this coastal Massachusetts tour. Running October 23, 2011, it has an innovative approach to racing and race management, and will be presented by Sub 5 Racing of Rindge, New Hampshire with offices also in Ahwatukee, Arizona. Dedicated to green racing, Sub 5 Racing has partnered with Green Stride and the perfect city of Newburyport to create an enjoyable and environmentally friendly event. After all, Newburyport was recognized by governor Duval Patrick as an exceptional green city and one in the forefront of green energy.
Sub 5 Racing, the North End Boat Club and Green Stride will promote this race, but also an eco-friendly lifestyle, and a healthy lifestyle, and they have invited businesses such as Brooks Running from the region and across the country to participate in this event, to have a presence at the race to present green initiatives and to highlight the advantages, and raise awareness of, the benefits of living in a green community—a community at large and the running community.
This race, which will run on a great course during peak foliage season, will begin at 10:00 a.m. in this city by the sea, which hosts some of the best road racing in a region known as the national hotbed of running. There will be cash prizes, live music, and great beer for the post race party from Peak Organic, one of the sponsors, along with terrific post race food and many other amenities.
A Word About the St. Charles Children’s Home 5K on Labor Day
By the way, just a note that Sub 5 Racing will be managing the St. Charles Children’s Home 5K at Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth, NH on Labor Day, September 5th. This race on the flat closed traffic course on the former Air Force Base is an annual fundraiser for the home, which brings healing, confidence, belonging and a tremendous sense of pride to kids who have been the victims of abuse, trauma, and neglect. The home is now famous as the “Running Nuns” created a children’s running program in 1996 and have since brought the tremendous benefits of running, well being and self esteem to hundreds of kids in need. Their 5K will include participation by many kids from the home and hundreds of others on this certified course. They have cash prizes, five year age groups, wonderful post race food, and a free kids’ fun run. See www.runningnuns.com for details.
More on the Newburyport Green Stride Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay
Newburyport will be beautiful on October 23, and the course will be inviting—and so will the Octoberfest party. In addition to Peak Organic Beers (they promise not to run out), several other local brewers will be participating (two tickets for all 21 or older), and the post race food will be outstanding while you enjoy the music and the special Newburyport atmosphere.
This race is for individuals of all abilities—friendly for all. And if you are not up to the complete 13.1 there are two classes of relay teams—the four-person and two-person. Members will run respectively about 5K or 10K each.
Did you ever want to be treated like an elite runner? Green Stride offers a unique VIP package with true privileges: Parking close by, separate porto-potties, very special and way cool T-shirt, separate food tent, unlimited beer form Peak Organic, and more. Pay an extra $60 fee (goes to a variety of green causes) and experience the best race of your career.
As you would expect from “Green Stride”, the T-shirts for the first 500 to register will be “wicked cool” Atayne Long Sleeve REC Performance, an outstanding product. Most importantly they are made in the USA from 100% recycled polyester—that is, recycled plastic bottles. Can you believe it? Recycled bottles converted to comfortable, attractive and practicable race wear. Those who are not among the first 500 will receive all organic cotton T-shirt. You may be surprised at the innovative ways in which they are making this one of the greenest races in the country.
Race headquarters will be the North End Boat Club, 1 Manson Avenue, downtown Newburyport. This is a counter-clockwise, mostly flat, USATF-certified loop course starting on Merrimack Street near the waterfront. See the course map on the Race Website http://www.newburyporthalfmarathon.com/ The Website has detailed information on the course and profile, sponsorships, registration, lodging and more. In the words of the Race Director, Chris Bernier, “This race is full of awesomeness for runners of all levels.”
There will be $3,000 in prize money for the top five women and men, and age group prizes along with prizes for the best “Green Theme” team and individuals. Also, five pairs of Brooks running shoes will be given out to lucky participants chosen at random.
Register and receive regular e-mail updates and information.
And just so you feel even better about feeling good, proceeds from the event will go to the Life is Good Children’s Foundation to fund “Playmakers” programs everywhere. These programs assist kids who deal daily with life threatening challenges and needs. Have a look at this: www.lifeisgood.com/playmakers/what-we-do/
