Get ready to run an amazing and enjoyable run and party in Salisbury, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 12 along the North Shore's gorgeous coast. The Green Stride St. Patty's Day 5K and 10K is a beautiful flat, paved loop on a very private reservation, a course that runs along postcard perfect beach, ocean front, marsh and wetland area. It feels so isolated that you won't believe you are on the North Shore. But soon after finishing your run you can enjoy food, beverages, live music (Irish, of course) at three of the local pubs in Salisbury. There will be plenty of parking at the reservation and lots of space at the pubs (all very close to each other so you won't have to crawl far).
This very enjoyable event is professionally organized by the folks at Green Stride Racing, the same organization that brought you the Green Stride Half Marathon in Newburyport that was so successful the last two years. And they also recently held the Rum Runner 5K in the Florida Keys--talk about contrast. This course has no cars and very few turns, so you can really turn it on.
The first 500 to register are guaranteed a tech shirt. Shirts can only be guaranteed to those preregistering. There will be plenty of free parking at the reservation.
You are guaranteed a well organized race filled with camaraderie with other runners, great prizes and good times--and a lot of folks dressed in St. Pattys green. So ladies and gentlemen, lace up your running shoes and kick your training into high-gear as you will definitely want to run this one-of-a-kind event! Use St. Pattys Day weekend to get your running in gear, and then reward yourself with refreshments and party time along the Beach Bars: Dolphin's Grill, Hobo's Carousel, Uncle Eddies, perhaps more.
Salisbury Beach Reservation
Salisbury Beach is one of the state's most popular ocean beaches, stretching 3.8 miles along the Atlantic Ocean. However, this is really quiet time at this beautiful reservation. This is a true gem, just like this new St. Patties Day Race. This 521-acre park offers swimming, boating, fishing, and camping, and is very popular with trailer campers. Facilities include a 484-site campground with renovated bathhouses, an extensive day-use parking lot, three new comfort stations for the beach-going public with boardwalks over the dunes, and a new playground and pavilion area. The facility also has two boat ramps on the Merrimack River at the campground's southern edge. There are many seabirds and wildlife, and, as noted, because of the peninsular isolation, you won't believe you are near town. In fall and winter, harbor seals often sun themselves on the jetty. The town of Salisbury has many activities for children of all ages, including (in summer) a large amusement park and video arcades. But this is March, and the perfect time to celebrate St. Patrick and the Green with quiet running and then terrific laughs and music.
The tourists will be gone, and it will be a runner's race and space.
