Welcome to the 18th Annual Lake Tahoe Events Series. Get ready for an events list so long you should view it from the Hubble Telescope! They have something for everyone in this weekend series, including the most unforgettable views and incredible courses you could wish for. Please join in for a “Sunday run you will never forget!” – An exciting Lake Tahoe adventure for the whole family!

Many events say, “Something for everyone.” But this truly is! The Lake Tahoe Marathon Events Series is a rolling three-day tour de force filled with Triathlons, Ultras, Marathons, Half Marathons, Kids’ Runs, Midnight Runs, Cycling, Kayaking and more! And yes, items on the list are pluralized; meaning it may happen more than once within a three day span AND you have your choice to participate in a singular event or mix and match for the ultimate (or should we say ultramate? Tahoe experience! So explore the wonders of Tahoe with us! Mark your calendars now for Friday, September 27th through Sunday, September 29th - the dates for this great Tahoe adventurethon.

The beauty of these events is that you have many options to choose from: It could be the endurance adventure of a lifetime if you participate in the longer, multiple-day events, or the vacation of a lifetime with “added workouts” if you choose from the menu of shorter-distance or one-day event options. It could also be an adventurous group get-away filled with family, friends and an event-a-day for everyone involved! The level of challenge is totally up to you, but whatever the choices do not miss out on this amazing racing opportunity in one of the most beautiful venues of the Wild West, gorgeous Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe: Where California and Nevada Meet
Nestled within the center of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, this is one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the United States: gorgeous 360-degree mountain views from within the valley and along the 72 miles of shoreline of a lake that should replace the definition of the word “blue” in Webster’s. This is home to the most beautiful trails and cleanest air you will ever run or bike with. This is a destination that should be on every family’s “Must Visit” list; and it should be on every friend’s “Road Trip” list, and every athlete’s “Places to Run/Bike/Swim” list.

Importantly, this beautiful spot is easy to get to because it is so close to the Reno/Tahoe International Airport, and about an hour from Interstate 80. It is roughly three hours away from the Bay, San Francisco and Oakland, and about two hours from Sacramento. And what better time to visit than late September – when many of the summer and winter tourists are at home and the weather is perfect for racing?

30+ Events in 3 Days: Yes, Something for Everyone!
This is one of the more complicated multi-day racing events you will come across. But rest assured – this awesome series is in its 18th year for good reason. The race directors, planning team, and event coordinators have this down to a science. Everything is perfectly timed and expertly organized and administered. It is no wonder athletes return again and again to race in the one-of-a-kind Tahoe events. It’s also not surprising that the race organization and the events have enjoyed rave reviews by participants. Also unsurprising is the addition of events year after year.

Les Wright, race director extraordinaire (also known as the Ring Master), has been dutifully mastering the art of events planning for over 20 years and can pull this off with his eyes closed! So what are you waiting for? Come see why both Tahoe residents and out-of-towners come back again and again for these events. Pick an option for you and each member of the family! Bring the team! All you need to do is show up, lace up, and enjoy the most scenic race(s) of a lifetime.

Thirty events within three days provide plenty of options! Choose an event for anyone, from children to walkers to novice runners to elite triathletes. There are some unique events including the Three-Day Triathlon with three levels of difficulty (or ease, depending on how you view it). And brand new: The Tahoe Double Down Double Marathon! This is a back-to-back marathon which starts Saturday night at midnight and includes the Saturday night California-Nevada (Cal-Neva) Marathon and Sunday’s Lake Tahoe Marathon, totaling 52.4 miles of the Tahoe experience. There will also be three Half Marathons within three days! Are you tough enough? Also new this year, all Half Marathoners will receive the special travel bag that Marathoners and Ultra-Marathoners receive.

Attention Maniacs and the 50 States Club:
This is one of the only opportunities you will have to run THREE marathons in THREE days and in two different states, minus the hassle of travel logistics such as an interstate flight or a cramped drive and possible speeding ticket. If you finish the three Tahoe Marathons, you will achieve “Ruthenium Level” in no time, AND you’ll be able to check off California and Nevada: two of the largest states in a two day time frame. This is usually a difficult feat, with planning and travel logistics nightmares, not to mention the added cost of travel and time. Well, with the Tahoe events, it is hassle free and you get to stay a bit longer in one of the most breathtaking areas in the natural world.

The glory of all of these events is that they are point-to-point with beachfront starts or beachfront finish lines. You will want to wear your finisher’s medal with honor! There will be unique medals awarded to all finishers – as well as license plate holders - to show the world what you’re made of! You will receive a special tech shirt at the expo when you pick up your race bib. And all half marathoners, marathoners and ultras will receive a handsome travel bag as well.

Walkers are welcome! There will be early starts for walkers at many events. They encourage all competitors at all levels so beginners, walkers and walk/joggers are welcome here. And, this being the laid back Tahoe area, iPods are also welcome. You can groove to your favorite tunes and will not be disqualified. They are a very accepting bunch! Another cool feature to this series is that race photos are included in your registration fee. You will receive free prints at the finish – as well as free digital images via email after the event! Yes- free race photos for all events!!

Race the Tahoe Specials
Half Marathons and Marathons:
Three marathons and half marathons within three consecutive days. Run one, two or three! If you run The Tahoe Triple Marathon, you will run all three separate marathons within three days, covering the entirety of the Lake Tahoe rim running in two states!

Double Down Marathon: This is the 1st Double Down Marathon and is a multi-day event that you must not miss! It is a double marathon, which begins at midnight on Saturday night. If you have even a slight urge to try this, do it! You will have bragging rights and medals galore after this one. This is 52.4 miles of consecutive running and involves night running and both states!

The Tahoe Three-Day Triathlon: Super-duper special this year is the 11th Tahoe Three-Day Triathlon. This one-of-a-kind Three-Day Triathlon is unique in that each sport is conducted on a separate day. That means there will be a Friday aqua event, a Saturday cycling event, and a Sunday run. This very special triathlon event will have three levels of distances: Friday, kayak five miles or swim a half mile, mile, or 2.5 miles. On Saturday bike a 72 mile loop around the lake, or participate in the shorter 35-mile bike ride. Sunday, choose between the Marathon, Half Marathon or 10K running event. To make it easy on your traveling logistics you can rent a kayak or a bike at Lake Tahoe!

The 72-Mile Midnight Express Ultra Marathon: The Tahoe 72-Mile Ultra is one lap around Lake Tahoe starting Saturday night and finishing with Sunday’s Lake Tahoe Marathon. If you are feeling tough, try the Super Triple Marathon. The Super Triple is the first two marathons of the Triple, then instead of going to bed on Saturday, running the 72-mile Midnight Express!

Other Super Fun Events:
The Optimist Kids' Fun Runs are Saturday afternoon and come with a finisher's medal, hotdog, drink and personalized race bib. Kids run for FREE!!

Please also join us at the very informative Expo where you will pick up your racing credentials and see what the Tahoe running world has to offer. You will also have the option of participating in the Sunset Pasta Cruise on Lake Tahoe. For spectators they offer special viewing buses so that friends and family can cheer on loved ones along the course! Wonderful! There will also be a VIP Lakeside Luncheon and, of course, an After Party where you can roll like a true Tahoan rock star.

What to Do?
Well, if their menu of events is not enough to satisfy your restless soul, you can always forgo sleep and travel the countryside. Lake Tahoe has some of the most magical views and also some of the most magnificent attractions. Head into some of the historic western towns surrounding the area, such as Tahoe City, Truckee, South Lake Tahoe, Stateline, King’s Beach and Squaw Valley to name a few.

From many areas around Tahoe, you can go horseback riding and go on boat trips and even fish (you do need a license to fish if you are over the age of 16 and they are easily procured throughout Lake Tahoe). You can head to the unbelievably scenic gondola at Heavenly next to the Expo, and then go shopping at Squaw Valley or South Lake Tahoe. Of course you should enjoy the Tahoe nightlife – which could include a bit of gambling, even if it’s just one time at the nickel slot machine!

Where to Stay?
The host hotel is the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. This is where you will pick up your bibs and shirts: Make sure you receive the Lake Tahoe Marathon and Events price. There are also plenty of sweet bed and breakfast options, as well as campsites for those who want a more rugged experience of Tahoe. For all lodging, please visit:
