2nd Neways Maui Paradise Marathon - 10 January 2010
The most beautiful course in the world. Escape the winter and escape the recession!
Posted Saturday, 4 April, 2009
You've made it through an extreme winter. Icy winds and slippery roads are fading memories and those winter tights and gloves are hibernating in your closet. You are visualising months of warm summer running in shorts and singlets. Everything is perfect, right? But every time you turn on the news 'doom and gloom' is all you hear. Talk of the recession saps your energy and takes away the joy of the coming summer, which will be over all too soon. You dream of an escape to paradise and the holiday next winter that your budget may deny you.
The 2010 Maui Paradise Marathon can make your dream come true, the vacation of a lifetime. By planning now and getting in on those great early bird/early booking deals, your holiday in paradise can become a reality. Does it get any better than combining vacation time in Hawaii with your passion for running?
Maui is a runners' paradise. Run along the beaches while tropical scented breezes cool you down and the ocean beckons you to take a dip in the blue pacific. Sounds good? It gets better. Imagine sharing your run along the ocean with our most magnificent creature, the whale. The race is in the middle of the whale migration season so you will have lots of opportunity to have this experience of a lifetime. Here you can continue your training for that spring marathon, get a suntan and have an amazing vacation at the same time. The picturesque beauty of the island of Maui, both coastal and inland provides a setting for so many activities that you will have a hard time making choices. Some of these activities can be found at http://www.visitmaui.com.
Maui Paradise Marathon is an 'eco-friendly' race with an equally eco-friendly race name sponsor - Neways. Neways provide some of the most innovative, safe, and effective products in the categories of nutrition and personal care.
Our mascot, Holo Kohola (Hawaiian for fast whale) is there to remind us of the importance of taking care of our environment, and with your help our race will leave behind only footprints and good memories. For a start, there will be no plastic bags. Every runner will receive a colorful souvenir tote bag and for other race materials such as drink cups we will recycle wherever possible.
The Maui Paradise Marathon event is a weekend of entertainment for the whole family, so we have catered for all ages and levels of fitness. Race day begins with a traditional spiritual Hawaiian blessing that will give you goose bumps and start your adrenalin pumping as you wait for the pre-dawn start of the Marathon.
Our scenic marathon course starts and finishes in Kalama Beach Park in Kihei, right on the ocean in South Maui at the base of dormant Haleakala. With a 6:00 am start you get to enjoy a spectacular sunrise over Haleakala. After running the 2009 Maui Paradise Marathon, Steve Mattina (marathon male winner) said, "it was the most beautiful course he had ever run on". With the early start, heat won't be a problem and your friends and family can be both at the start and the finish. At the finish line you will have the encouragement of the cheering crowds to bring you in over those last tough yards. The personal touch of hearing your name announced as you cross the finish line will give you that last burst of adrenalin you need for a PR.
it was the most beautiful course he had ever run on
If you want all the excitement of the marathon but find the 26.2 a little daunting, there is always our Half Marathon, starting and finishing at the same place and time as the marathon. This course is just as scenic and challenging and the whales don't discriminate between marathon and half marathon runners!
. For those that like a shorter distance, enter our 5K. Once again the start and finish is at Kalama Beach Park and we promise a finish just exciting as the marathon/half marathon event.
The little ones hate to be left out; this is why we have the Keiki (kids) Races. This is a fun event where every child is a winner and everyone gets an award. There will be varying distances from 25 meters to around 400 meters depending on the ages. We have races for all children 6 and under. Yes, all ages. As long as they can crawl, tumble, roll, or walk assisted by Mom and Dad, they can enter our Keiki races. It will make for some great 'Kodak' moments for the photo album.
Maui Paradise Marathon is a weekend of activities for runners, friends and families. The Sport and Fitness Expo on Saturday will give you an opportunity to browse and to get in some serious 'retail therapy' to help you through those 'recession blues'. There will be a great selection of Maui Paradise Marathon merchandise that will be a constant reminder of your time in paradise.
After an afternoon at the expo or a swim in the glorious pacific, you will have worked up quite an appetite. Be sure to be on time for the Carbo Luau and be well fueled for the big day on Sunday. This is a great place to exchange tips and tales with other runners and perhaps find a 'buddy' to pace with. This is where lifelong friendships can be formed with people who all have one thing in common, a serious love of running.
When all the races have been run it is time to sit back and relax at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday. Here is your chance to exchange email addresses, phone numbers etc. with your new Maui Paradise Marathon friends. This is the time to agree to meet back in 2011 to improve on your times, or just relax and enjoy another weekend in paradise, on the island of Maui.
