The countdown to the inaugural Sunshine State Races has begun! The event offers two races, including the West Palm Beach Half Marathon and 5K. This exciting new event will debut in famous West Palm Beach, running a north-south course that will feature many parks and intriguing sights along the waterway and will highlight many notable locations where railroad magnate Henry Flagler established one of the earliest resorts in Florida. This unique event will blast off on Saturday, February 25, 2012, on a gorgeous waterfront course along Florida’s famed waterways. Palm Beach County has grown into a center for business and commerce with a lot to see and do, including cultural activities, shopping, dining, and ecotourism.

West Palm Beach is only 70 miles north of Miami, but has a totally different charm and appeal going back to the late 1800’s. And the historic city streets and lovely neighborhoods of West Palm Beach provide a terrific place to run in winter. On February 25, the average high temperature is 77, and average low 60; compare that with Boston, for example, which averages 41 and 27 degrees, respectively. And there is much more sun in Florida—the Sunshine State. Boats will ply the waters along the course, and many activities beckon for the entire weekend, including over 47 miles of pristine beaches in Palm Beach County.

Eident Sports is renowned for providing runners with quality, exceptionally well organized race experiences across the country. And this event allows participants the opportunity to run well and do good: runners will be making strides for those less fortunate because a portion of the race proceeds will benefit a series of non-profit organizations in Palm Beach County that address hunger and homelessness. An estimated 1,700 kids in the county are homeless and over half the kids in the county need assistance with school lunches and other food assistance.

Please visit the race website for information on travel and hotels, registration, course descriptions and maps, parking and shuttles, bib pickup (Friday and race day), gear check, traffic, shopping, volunteering, photos, results, FAQ’s, contacts, and more: www.sunshinestateraces.com

There is a cap on the field so you will want to register early. Also, there is a price increase on January 1, 2012, so don’t delay. For your registration fee you will receive a fantastic opportunity to run a scenic course in one of the country’s most beautiful locations, and Chronotrack B-chip timing (chip is embedded in the bib), a custom T-shirt, goodie bag, water stations, mile markers each mile, USATF-certified course, finishers medal, food and beverages at the finish, Internet and e-mail results, and more. You can get additional information and have questions addressed by e-mailing info@sunshinestateraces.com.

Set a PR with this ultra flat course with likely ideal conditions. Check the race website for more information and details on the course: www.sunshinestateraces.com
