Each year, the Athleta Iron Girl series of events grows and evolves. And 2011 is no different—what a lineup! With 13 great events for women only—ranging from road races to duathlons to triathlons—these races have something for every aspiring woman athlete. Are you ready to take it to the next level? Are you ready to experience that unique camaraderie? This year’s series includes longer distances to challenge you and two new triathlons in New Orleans and Portland to entice you.
Empowerment, challenge, growth, grace all are within your grasp. The Iron Girl series of events gives every woman a platform to push herself through the next challenge and past her limits. Launched in 2004, theses races aim to empower women toward a healthy lifestyle while united in athleticism, strength and grace, all embodied in Iron Girl.
New for 2011, Iron Girl has teamed up with Athleta, the Sonoma County-based women’s sports and active apparel brand. As the new title sponsor, Athleta and Iron Girl make a powerful team—both focused on giving women a chance to come together through sport to do something great for themselves alongside friends, family and other female athletes. “A desire to be challenged athletically while bonding with and supporting others embodies the Athleta woman, making Iron Girl an ideal partner,” said Tess Roering, VP of Marketing for Athleta.
All Athleta Iron Girl event participants are treated to a memorable event experience that will live beyond the finish line. In addition to racing in a friendly but competitive all-female setting, the takeaways are also first-class. Each athlete will be treated to a post-race breakfast, women-specific performance tees, professional timing, personalized race bibs, custom finisher’s medals for each event, TriClique jewelry for age group winners, on-demand results, music requests for the Clearwater Half Marathon, post-race giveaways and so much more. Clearwater, Florida was just the Beginning
The Athleta Iron Girl series kicked off in Clearwater, Florida on April 10th with the new Iron Girl Clearwater Half-Marathon and 5K Run/Walk. The half marathon features a single-loop course that starts and finishes at Clearwater Beach--lovely. The 5K run/walk was an out-and-back course from Clearwater Beach. Soak up the sun and enjoy the waterfront views on both courses. Leave the headphones at home with many of these events—you won’t need them on this course, which features entertainment zones with DJs pumping out motivational music to keep you going to the finish line. Have a favorite tune that psyches you up during your run? There will be a request line for songs you want to hear on the course. And you even have a say in which tune will be rocking the start.
The Clearwater event, which featured a 15K (9.3 miles) in 2010, challenged participants by extending the run to 13.1 miles. Each year, Iron Girl veterans can adjust their goals and train for a longer distance. And Iron Girls in the making can start with the 5K and look to build from event-to-event or year-to-year.
