Well, I'm halfway through. Through what? Life. If I am lucky, I might make it to 80. Unlikely but you just never know. I'm 40 now, and things are going to be different. Who knows how many years I have left. 10, 20, 50? Nobody can say for sure but I know they are going to be years of crazy awesomeness. Now that I'm all grown up I can finally get that dirt bike and go kart I always wanted. Maybe I'll get my own limo. Waterslide and Skeeball machine? They're on the list too. Might even pick up a boom box with dual cassettes. Boy, adulthood really is going to be kickass!  Nobody to tell me what to do. Riding my bike all day, wherever I want. Ice cream and candy for breakfast. Hell yeah, I'm liking the way this is looking.

Or so the dream went. The future always looks amazing when viewed through eyes colored by youth. The reality never quite reconciles with those dreams, however silly they may be. Fortunately for me, what took the place of those goofy childhood ideas of life as a grownup is just as good. Most of it anyway, I still want that go kart. Other than my mediocre career choice, I have an amazing wife, incredible kids, a nice home, great friends, (wait, are you guys laughing AT me or WITH me?), and of course a rockin body  .... 

So happy birthday to me. Thanks to Tracy for making a cake that would make both Betty Crocker AND Duncan Hines reconsider if they really want to continue. Thanks to Cyndy for compiling a printed archive of all the Monday night race write-ups. The Library of Congress will never be the same. And of course thanks to my "Old lady" (that's guy speak for my wife who is actually way younger than me) for just letting me be the running fool that I am.

Now that I've gone soft, maybe next week I can get back to ridiculing, poking fun, and humiliating those who unknowingly choose to put themselves in the spotlight each week at our Monday night run/beerfest/potluck/bakeoff.........Come on down and join us, you too can be a victim!
