What a difference 4 months make!!! this race was a special event - re-
placing last December's Beaver Brook Winter 5K that was 'Iced Out' by
the big storms that knocked out power to more than half of New Hampshire
- much of the state for a week or more. Half the field were reschedulees
(is that a word?) and the others new signups over the past few weeks.
The 3CRP race crew froze early on while clearing the course and setting
up as temps were sub-40 for a while, but the Sun finally broke through
around race time and warmed everybody up for the challenge. What chal-
lenge? Was it the uphill finish for the last 4/10 mile? Was it the snow
and ice patch encountered on both the outbound and inbound legs? Was it
Beaver Brook itself that had overflowed it's banks adding a steeplechase
feel to the race. Or did some runners actually believe the RD when he
told of the giant man-eating Beaver that lived under the bridge over
the namesake brook?
Regardless of the challenges, Nathan Hausman, Adam Klingel, and Steve
Smith put down sub-sixes to take the top 3 spots - with Hausman in 15:43.
Amy Malone took the women's title over Trail Pixie Trespas 19:56 to
20:45, with Nadia Gilroy taking 3rd.
Burian Laski won the Canine division by default...
Runners and walkers alike were treated to fresh fruit and pastries at
the finish, followed by the 3CRP Award Ceremony featuring pint Glasses
for overall and age groups champs (Soda Mugs for winners under 21.)
and the usual BigRaffle featuring FuelBelts, RoadIDs, Fun On Foot In
New England Books, Far Gone Greeting Cards, 3CRP Hanteens, and more.
We'll be back at Beaver Brook for the Summer 5K on July 26 and the
Winter 5K on December 13. Seeya there...
