A beautiful night on Mount Hope Bay greeted the 80+ entrants in the first annual
Colt State Park 5K in historic Bristol, Rhode Island. The entrants were treated
to a moderately challenging, but thoroughly enjoyable trek on the trails in the
back corner of the park.
Martin Tighe, reigning record holder in the 12 hour treadmill run, ran away from
the field, winning in 18:07 --- a 1 1/2 minute victory over 17 year old hometown
hero, Andrew Augustus. Paul Morrissey rounded out the top three in 20:03.
Shelly Rodier ventured down from Taunton totake a 41 second win over high school
runner Elizabeth Corvese of Portsmouth RI. 50 year young Patricia Lachance took
3rd and totally dominated her age group.
As always, the overall and age group winners went home with pint glasses (soda mugs
for the wee ones) with the stylish race logo on them. All runners went home with
a race tee and bag full of goodies from our sponsors. Lastly, 16 runners were
victorious in our always popular post race raffle -- this one featuring 2 pairs
of Vasque Trail Racing Shoes from our main sponsor, as well as other prizes from
Road ID, Fuel Belt, Trail Runner Magazine, Fun On Foot, and Falcon Safety Horns.
Next up on the schedule is the 2nd race in the Nashua (NH) PAL Mine Falls River
Series --- 5K for the adults and 3K for the kids --- on Saturday June 28. This
races mascot is the Wolf --- incredible t-shirts for all!!!
