Some Like it Hot

Some may like it hot, but very few run well in the heat.

After last year's Reverse the Course 5K the general consensus was that the course
was indeed faster when run in the opposite direction. It is amazing how temperature
can change the "general consensus."
Last night the discussion centered around how difficult the course is when run in the counter clockwise direction. Of course very high humidity and high temperatures (86 degrees at the start) was more of a factor then direction. This would have been the perfect evening for our upcoming bikini run.
Despite the harsh running conditions, 153 runners lined up near Lowell High School for the start. Leading the way was Lowell's Stephen Gendron (16:37) who recorded his second consecutive Good Times victory. Methuen's Christie Fox (20:24) also recorded her second victory of the season and remained atop the Good Times Leader Board. Dracut's Joe Donnelly held on to his top spot on the Leader Board.
Photographs
and Memories
Tonight we had running photographer extraordinaire Jim Rhoades in attendance.
Jim usually shows up a few nights each season and photographs the race for us.
I sure hope he shows up on bikini night. Jim and his group of photographers
have probably photographed more runners than anyone else and they do this all
for free. His site, www.jimrhoades.com,
is a photographic record of running in New England over the last decade. Check
his photographs from last evening by clicking

Next Week
Next week (July 15) is our Nostrodamus Mystical Predict Your Time 5K. The top
three runners who run closest to their predicted time will win a really cool,
and I mean "really cool," prize. No watches or GPS devices will be
allowed on the course. You'll need to fill out a predicted time form prior to
the race. I am always amazed at how close runners come to their predicted time
and I expect next week to be no different. So I hope you can join us and as
always, we can't promise you'll run a fast time, but we guarantee you'll
have a Good Time at the Good Times Series.
