Mine Falls Summer Trail Race Series - Race #1

Race Story:

Due in no small part to the help we received from our 6 very able volunteers, our inaugural Mine Falls
Summer Trail Race was a huge success! We had 42 runners (more than double my anticipated turnout!)
participate in Race #1 of our little 10-race Series. The threatening thunderstorms never materialized
during what turned out to be a great night for a leisurely run through the woods. 29 folks ran the flat
& fast 5k. While 13 others accepted the challenge and tackled the more rugged 5 mile course.
The winners of the 5k race were Jim Mackenzie (18:22) and Felicia Lombardi (20:35). The winners
of the 5 mile race were Mark Wimmer (32:42) and Amber Cullen (46:16). Our 5 raffle prize winners
walked away from the race richer than when they came and were thankful that those whose numbers
where selected originally didn’t hang around for the drawing. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves
and I’ve already gotten e-mails from a few runners saying how much fun they had. Thanks again to
everyone who came out to support the start of this summer race series. And, I hope to see all of you
out there again next week to continue the fun!
