Showdown in Worcester......What promised to be the first serious threat to Mike Weinbergs string of Monday night victiories went off without the drama all had expected and hoped for.  Mikes winning streak extends back to January 8th, which was the inaugural running of the An Cu Liath City Run. For ten weeks, and many previously at the now defunct Paulie's House Run,  Mike ran virtually unopposed, rarely even looking over his shoulder, to maintain his title as the only winner of our Monday night race series.  There are even unconfirmed reports that he sometimes stopped to help trusting grandmas cross busy streets and yet it never affected his streak.  He runs that fast.  Well...there's a new speedster in town and he likes to win.  While Mike sat on the sidelines tonight nursing an injury and an Iced Coffee, Mario Fraioli of Worcester Telegram fame took to the streets and made a statement that implies who the new king of Monday racing shall be. After a casual start Mario disappeared over the horizon only to be seen crossing the finish line 23 minutes later with hardly a sweat broken.  Should Mike be ready and Mario return, it looks like we have a race come next week..........
 
Post race festivities this week included runner interviews by Mr. Fraioli to be part of this Sundays feature article in the Telegram profiling what is now the only weekly race in the city.  The word has come down from the Big Fella that the An Cu Liath City run will continue at it's current location right through the summer!
 
In the best dressed category Marta Carlson came by after the run with a salad that accompanied the pasta and meatballs prepared in the Curley kitchen very nicely.  Jim Whittemore also stopped in to say hi with his new baby girl in tow who at two months is still a while away from running.
 
You know you have a great event when people want to come by just to hang out. It's the An Cu Liath City run and it happens every Monday at 6:30 pm and all are welcome! P.T.
