Fast Times at the Good Times

Are the fast times run on the Good Times course a result of the fast track or is it because the race attracts fast runners? I suspect it is a little of both.

Some of the fastest 5K times run in the Merrimack Valley this year have been on the Good Times course and last night was no exception. Leading the way for the third consecutive week was Lowell's own Benjamin Ndaya in an impressive 15:12. Benjamin has consistently been under 5:00 minute/mile pace in all three Good Times races this season.
Not far behind Benjamin was Dracut's Jim St. Pierre (15:46) and Maynard's Mark Mayall (16:24). Both runners set new Good Times course PRs. Leading for the women was Middleton's Linda Quimby in 21:04. This was Linda's second victory in three weeks. Linda was closely followed by former series' champion Christie Fox (21:11) of Methuen. A mere 61 Good Times Points separate these two runners for the overall series lead.
Tonight competition was age, gender and weight graded making the competition a bit more interesting. The women dominated the lower weight divisions while the men dominated the higher weight divisions. There were several outstanding performances. Most noticeably Boxford's Wendy Burbank ran an outstanding graded time of 16:25 and seventy-one years young George Bisson ran a graded time of 16:17. Both runners took top honors in their respective divisions.
After the race runners retired to the patio at Hookslide Kelly's to share race stories and a pint or two. Master-of-ceremonies Dave LaBrode awarded Smileyman technical shirts to runners who finished all ten Good Times springtime races along with 32 Mylie medals for setting course personal records and numerous prizes and gift certificates were raffled-off.
Next week is our Reverse
the Course 5K where we will run part of the course in the reverse direction.
After the race participants will spend time on the patio discussing which direction
is actually fastest. We will also have age group awards, PR awards and our usual
post race raffle. And, as always, "We can't promise you will run a fast
time, but we do guarantee you will have a Good Time!"
