Felton Frolic

The field heads out...

The second Felton Frolic was held in near ideal conditions. The sun was shining and the course was fairly dry despite the 10" of rain that fell over the last two weeks. The field was slightly smaller than the 11 who finished the race in May with 9 completing the 2.8 miles of hills, fields, grass, and singletrack.

Race director Stephen Peterson dueled with Kenneth Tripp for the entire race, only pulling away for good in the last few hundred meters. Both broke the previous course record of 16:03. Most who returned from the Spring race improved drastically. Peterson ran 4:42 faster, Tripp ran 1:51 faster (and got second place again), John Parker ran 1:09 faster, Dave Wheat improved 3:54, and Dennis Lindenberg ran 3:51 faster. The only repeater who did not run faster was "Wrong-way" Richard Busa. The 75 year old ran 4:43 slower, but went off course twice including a protracted amount of time at the finish line discussing exactly where the course went.
