Monadnock Mountain Challenge top finishers

The inaugural running of the Monadnock Mountain 10K went off successfully with some fog, resulting in a few missed turns. Some runners claimed that “this has got to be the toughest mountain race in New England!” Twenty five runners completed the challenge. First place went to Elijah Barrett of Keene, NH, with a time of 1:25:48. Second place went to Rob Ricard of Berwick, Maine, with a time of 1:27:43. Third went to James Doneski of Concord, NH with a time of 1:29:18.

In the 50+ category, Dick Jardine of the Monadnock Regional Milers placed 5th overall with a time of 1:41:56. Stan Dutton of Antrim NH, another Miler placed 11th over all, and 2nd for the 50+ age group. That is not a bad showing, considering he sustained an injury to his shoulder. Other Monadnock Regional Milers had strong showings, too. Tom Brumaghim placed 4th, Ray Dauphinais placed 6th, and Gregg Hammett placed 7th.

Heidi Havron of Merrimack, NH finished first for the women with a time of 2:023: 46. She was 14th overall. Jana Paterova, (MRM) placed 2nd for the women with a time of 2:09: 05, and 3rd went to Kate Naples of E. Sandwich, MA with a 2:12:17.

A strong field conquered a tough, perhaps the toughest, mountain run in New England. Look for the fall foliage season running of this race. It may be added to the “Grand Tree” of the New England Mountain Series very soon!
