An eighth of a mile into the race	Bree and Maddee Schrader - with Dad

Following a week of clear skies, low humidity and high temperatures in the 60's, the race day forecast was for thunderstorms. Fortunately, the adverse weather did not materialize until three hours after the race. Conditions were near the ideal for a "winter" race - partly cloudy skies with a starting time temperature in the low 60's. The only negative was the presence of moderate humidity.

Oklahoma State University student Andy Rihn returned home (Spring, TX) during winter break with a goal - regain his lost course record. Rihn and Jason Banes, both teenage runners, had jointly held the course record of 16:41 until it was broken in race #42 by Carmelo Pieri (16:28). Running alone from start to finish, Rihn accomplished his goal by crossing the finish line in 16:19.

Two other records were set. Bree Schrader, age 8, took over a minute off her own female age 00-12 record with an impressive 23:39. Her sister, ten-year old Maddee, was not far behind finishing in 23:58. Dan Allensworth made a long drive from Galveston worth the while by trimming nearly six minutes off the existing male 70-79 record with a clocking of 24:55.

The field of forty included seventeen juniors. In that group were six students from the Providence Classical School in neighboring Spring, Texas.

This was the final Run The Woodlands 5K of 2001 and the 48th in the series which began in January 2000. The next race, the first of 2002, is scheduled for Saturday, January 12th. The entry fee remains $1.00 (yes, one dollar).
