 5K Walkers got "warmed up" by a
representative from Hospital for Special Surgery under the shade
trees in NY's Central Park.

Brazil); Jane Omoro (#3, Kenya); Gete Wami (#2, Kenya); Tegla Laroupe (#1,
Kenya).

 The eventual winner on this warm, beautiful day was Tegla Laroupe in 31:48.

 Last year's Avon Mini Marathon winner, Kim Griffin(NY), beat her '98 Avon
Mini-Marathon time and was 3rd American behind Libbie Hickman (CO, 10th) and Ann
Marie Lauck (NJ, 12th)

 '98 US Avon National Champion, Jody Hawkins, ran her last event before
entering boot camp for the US Army in their Elite Athlete program on this
Monday

 98 US Avon National Masters winner, Jane Welzel (CO) was 2nd Master for a
$1000 prize

 Carolyn Aishton, Avon's Sr. Dir. of Sports &
Event Marketing, speaks with Susan Kropf, Avon's North American
President. Susan was inspired by her participation in the Chicago event and has
lost 25 pounds to "walk the talk" for the program.
