Grete Waitz -
Grete Waitz is perhaps the greatest women's distance runner of all time. The nine-time winner of the New York City Marathon has won 13 of the 19 marathons she entered including the London Marathon twice, the Stockholm Marathon, and the inaugural marathon at the 1983 World Championships. Waitz also won the silver medal in the first women's Olympic marathon in Los Angeles in 1984. Since retiring from competition in 1990, Waitz has become a leading health and fitness advocate addressing thousands of people each year and is the author of On the Run: Exercise and Fitness for Busy People.
Kathline Switzer -
In her career, Switzer has run in more than 35 marathons including the 1974 New York City Marathon which she won, and the 1967 Boston Marathon for which she gained worldwide notoriety when a race official tried to rip off her number and throw her out of the race -- because she was a woman. After an 11-year career in sports broadcasting for which she earned an Emmy Award for her commentating on marathons, Switzer has just written a book entitled Running and Walking for Women Over 40 which is to be released in April.
Avon New Runners and Walkers Clinic -
More than 500 women are expected to participate in this free in-depth panel discussion designed to offer women of all ages, abilities and fitness levels an opportunity to prepare for the Avon Running - New York Mini-Marathon.

The Avon Running - New York Mini Marathon becomes the 11th city in the Avon Running - U.S. Program. Considered the oldest and most prestigious all-women's running event in the world, the Avon Running - New York Mini-Marathon is expected to attract more than 8,000 participants for both the 10K race and 5K fitness walk. The winner of the New York 10K race on June 6 will win a trip to the Avon Running National Championship, where she will have a chance to go on to the Avon Running Global Championship. The Global Championship features a total prize purse of $50,000, making it the richest prize money 10K race in the history of women's road running.
