Milan, Italy Race Report Sunday May 3, 1998

On a beautiful Sunday morning in Milan, more than 1900 women gathered at Arena Civica in the center of thecity for Avon Running - Milan 10K Run and 5K Fitness Walk.

The race, organized by the Stramilano Athletca Club hosted a field of some of the best runners in Italy. Run on major city streets and past fashionable shops, the course was flat and fast.

The top runners set an early pace, exchanging leads in a tough-fought competition. Entering the stadium in a sprint to the finish line was Maura Viceconte in 33:34. Fresh from her 2nd place finish in the Los Angeles Marathon in March.

In a battle for second place was 33 year old Franca Fiacconi, 33:50, followed closely by Sonia Maccioni in 33:56.

A very special participant in the 5K Fitness Walk was Gabriell Dorio, Gold Medalist in the 1300 meters in the 1984 Olympic Games who was accompanied by her daughter.

The first Avon Representative was Antonella Scardino. The first Avon Associate (employee) was Vivvian Giglio.
